Our approach
Understand before you touch. We map what the system actually does, including the rules that only exist in code, and separate what must be preserved from what can be retired.
Extract the rules. Financial calculations, eligibility logic and workflow rules are pulled out of legacy procedures into testable services with scenario tests agreed with the business.
Modernise in slices. New capability is delivered alongside the old system with a clear boundary, so the organisation keeps operating throughout. We have done this with cloud services beside legacy databases, and with TypeScript conversions of large JavaScript codebases one module at a time.
Fix delivery at the same time. Git, CI/CD, versioned database change with Dubnium and automated browser tests with Paxter come as part of the work, so the modernised system does not decay the way the old one did.
Where we have done this
- Migrated complex financial and business logic from legacy database procedures into cloud-based services for a regulated client.
- Converted the public website of an Australian health insurer from JavaScript to TypeScript, module by module, after proving the approach in a proof of concept.
- Moved a treasury agency from a legacy source-control system to Git with every repository's history intact.
